MONSERATE “THE MONSTER RAT” DENIES LGBT

Today I received some emails from a few neighbors who are just outraged about Monserate’s decision for equal rights for LGBT, marriage.

Subject: Monster Rat … Please send to your neighbors

Feel free to show your support for marriage equality on Saturday, December 12th, by demonstrating outside Hiram Monserrate’s office in

Jackson Heights.

For those you who are not aware, Hiram Monserrate is our senator who recently voted against marriage equality in the New York State Senate, one of only 8 Democratic senators to do so.  He was also recently found not guilty of slashing his girl friend’s face in a domestic dispute but found guilty of a misdemeanor charge of assaulting her – made obvious by footage from the surveillance cameras in his building, showing him violently dragging her, while she was bleeding, through the lobby of their building to take her to the ER.

Nothing would be more inspiring than to see families attending this rally.  Please send this to any

Hawthorne Court

or

Jackson Heights friends who you think would be interested in supporting equality.

Ann, if there are any people on your distribution list for garden events who would be supportive, I would appreciate your forwarding this.

the LGBT equality coalition of queens had already planned a march
on monserrate’s office about a week and a half ago for Saturday the 12th.
People are getting together Saturday for our bi-weekly meetings so everyone
is welcome to join to help discuss and further plan this march, as well as
endorse it, build it etc etc. People will be meeting Saturday at 4pm at the
Queens Pride House on 37th ave. btw 77th and

76th street

in

Jackson Heights.

REAL ESTATE TAX CREDIT

Recently I wrote to Chuck Schumer and Senator Gilliabrand to extend the credit and this is what I received back from them.

KEEP WRITING TO EXTEND THE CREDIT!

Dear Ms. Beaudoin:Thank you for expressing your support for the first time homebuyer tax credit. This tax credit plays a significant role in the revitalization of the housing market by providing individuals with a financial incentive to purchase a home. In doing so, homebuyer interest and housing sales have increased exponentially, which has spurred activity and growth in housing markets that might otherwise be stalled given the current economic climate.I supported the first time homebuyer tax credit as a provision included in the Housing and Economic Recovery Act that passed in the 110th Congress. This provision provided a refundable tax credit of up to $7,500 intended for first-time homebuyers, or individuals who have not purchased a principal residence within three years before buying a new property, and have bought a home after April, 2008 and before December, 2009.

This credit, with my support, was then expanded in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) that passed last February to provide first time homebuyers with a credit of up to $8,000 towards the purchase of a primary residence. ARRA also changes the recapture requirement originally included in this credit so eligible homebuyers who purchase their home in 2009 do not have to pay back the amount of the credit, so long as the taxpayer remains in this property for three years.

I continue to believe that the first time homebuyer tax credit plays a significant role in the housing market by making homeownership an appealing and accessible possibility for individuals and consequentially increasing consumer demand.

Again, thank you for contacting me on this important issue. Please do not hesitate to contact me again if I can be of further assistance on this, or any other matter.

Sincerely,

Charles E. Schumer
United States Senator

WSJ Housing Market & First time Buyers

p7182037.JPGWhat has changed in the housing market?  Recently in our area JH and North Western Queens the prices have held compared to other overbuilt markets in the city such as Williamsburg, Brooklyn and some Manhattan new construction.  Fox and CNBC reported increase in housing which means in my words, there is more volume this year than last!  That means more people are buying and more buyers are first time buyers.   My firm is experiencing more sales this year than last.  Yes it is true but everything takes longer, you need to work a little harder at selling.  The price has to be right along with the condition of the property.  We have a great neighborhood with excellent housing stock.  Less property is for sale and less comparables for the banks to use for their appraisals.  It is a hard economic time!  Luckily we have a great value in Jackson Heights Real Estate and no new construction in the Historic District.

WSJ had a follow up article to the annoucement by the other news agencies.   We will keep you posted as changes occur in the market.

We value your opinions and hope you add to the blog.  Ask anything about housing and we will try to help!
