Yes it is a great new place. Try the morning it is full but less crowded. They will be having sandwiches soon. Espresso 77 has many kinds of scones. I tried a the cranberry scone it was excellent. Keep on tryin’ DeseoNYC to get in…we need to patronize these places open in the hood!

I was so excited to see that there’s a coffee shop in the neighborhood, especially with wireless. It is a great place. I would love it even more if there were mugs and plates for staying there, and if they toasted bagels. I know I may be in the minority for being bothered by this, but the last few times I’ve been there during the morning/day, it’s been a little overrun with running kids and parents who talk across the room to each other while the kids run back and forth. Also, people going in there to have meetings on their cell phone, which I find more egregious than the running children. The combination of the kids, and the cell phones, and the often loud conversations behind the counter leaves you a little more rattled than relaxed.

All in all though-the presence of Espresso 77 in the neighborhood is very exciting, and the local products are wonderful, and I especially recommend an evening stop for some hot chocolate.

They do have plates when you order in. I know that when I’ve ordered some of the sweets, they’ve been served to me on a white stoneware plate. The mugs are another story, and I agree that it would be nice to have my morning coffee in a mug rather than a paper cup. That would mean less waste too. On the children issue, it can get a little hectic inside when the place fills up with mommies and accompanying children. It kinda takes that peaceful getaway aspect right out of it altogether.

I also have enjoyed having a new coffee shop, and i love to support small indie businesses, but i have a few serious gripes. the screaming children and mothers who seem to think it’s their livingroom, and the fact that they don’t toast bagels. why would they not toast bagels? it seems rediculous, and a great way to drive people to the starbucks coming soon.

I think kids like ice cream better than coffee! Surprised to hear about this issue.Children have a short attention span. There is an inside voice to be taught by parents, who need to set parameters at home and behavior in public. I see this as…Growing pains for the changing needs of the neighborhood… JH neighbors will find their comfortable venue. I am glad we have somewhere to get quality beverages and goodies, etc. Remember how much we miss Cafe Grecco!

Re: Toasting bagels — I asked about that on my first visit, and was told “no toasting, and no plans to toast either”. I don’t know what the big deal on toasting is, especially considering the fact that they’re now serving pannini sandwiches which require pressing. Yeah, not actually toasting, but using some form of heating nonetheless.

I’m still trying to get in!! Can someone spare me a seat?? ;) No bagel toasting – very – odd. I’m sure they eventually will. Personally I don’t like my bagels toasted but I know most do! I think I have to take a day off in order to find an empty chair! ;) Now, I’m hoping Starbucks opens PRONTO! lol

We do have a bagel store on 85 Street and 37 Avenue that toasts bagels! WOW! I thought it was great to have a place with scones and other different goodies. Let them get a chance to catch up with the needs of their clients/customers. I do hope all the customers that are lingering make it profitable. I have been to coffee shops in the West Village with lots of instructions for all the wifi people who never move!

So basically, if I want to enjoy a cup of Espresso 77 coffee, I should buy my coffee there and then trek it on up to the bagel place on 85th Street because they are willing to toast my bagel? Right? I’m not a huge fan of the scones that are available right now at Espresso 77. I find them too oily, and a brownie does not appeal to me at breakfast time. The muffins are much too small in my opinion.

Good News for bagel toasters…The bagels are actually from 85 St. & fresh everyday. The staff said they are getting a toaster at Espresso 77. Bon Appeitte.

Just give them a while…for the toaster that is! Had great soup and sandwich today! The place was very quiet and tranquil. Love the new place for a quick meal during work!

I just wish the owners didn’t want to hang out in their (all too) small cafe. There are only 3 seats in a space about the size of a Manhattan livingroom, so when they’re occupying the table — and the vibe, while friendly, is super clique-ish — there is no room for visitors.

Magarna

I did not think it was clique-ish…sure there is room for visitors. Maybe the other coffee shops are better for you. Check out Lety’s and Starbucks in a week or so…Looking forward to meeting you in the hood.

Too many noisy kids. It seems inconsiderate to others, to allow a screaming baby to stay in a cafe for over thirty minutes.

I understand what you mean. My heart goes out to the owner. How do you make a living with all these people sitting without purchasing?
